KOJAGIRI PURNIMA 2024 VRAT KATHA & SIGNIFICANCE
On Sharad Purnima day, Goddess Lakshmi and Indra seated on Airavata are worshiped at night. Fasting, Pujan and Jagran all the three parts have equal importance in this fast. In this fast, the first watchmen of the night worship Lakshmi and Indra and then offer floral tributes to both of them. After this pooja, poha and coconut water are offered to the god-fathers and given to the devotees. Kojagari Poornima is celebrated in various temples. Lakshmi is specially worshipped.
During the Dwapara Yuga in Vrindavan, Shri Krishna performed Rasali with the Gopis on this very night. It is believed that Sri Krishna and Gopika compose Rasali even today in Vrindavan. Devotees of the Vaishnava sect celebrate Rasotsav to commemorate that special occasion. Lord Krishna and Radha are specially worshipped.
व्रत पूजा
शरद पौर्णिमेच्या दिवशी करायच्या व्रतात रात्री लक्ष्मी देवीची आणि ऐरावतावर बसलेल्या इंद्राची पूजा केली जाते. उपवास, पूजन व जागरण या तीनही अंगांना या व्रतात सारखेच महत्त्व आहे. या व्रतात रात्रीच्या पहिल्या प्रहरी लक्ष्मी व इंद्र यांचे पूजन करतात व मग त्या दोघांना पुष्पांजली समर्पित करतात. अशी पूजा झाल्यावर पोहे व नारळाचे पाणी देव-पितरांना अर्पण करून आप्तेष्टांना देतात. विविध मंदिरांमध्ये कोजागरी पौर्णिमा साजरी केली जाते. लक्ष्मीची विशेष उपासना केली जाते.
द्वापार युगात वृंदावनमध्ये श्रीकृष्णाने गोपिकांसोबत याच रात्री रासलीला केली होती. वृंदावनात आजही श्रीकृष्ण आणि गोपिका रासलीला रचतात, अशी मान्यता आहे. त्या विशेष प्रसंगाची आठवण म्हणून वैष्णव संप्रदायाचे भक्त रासोत्सव साजरा करतात. श्रीकृष्ण आणि राधाची विशेष उपासना केली जाते.

प्राचीन काळी मगध देशात वलित नावाचा एक संस्कारी परंतु दरिद्री ब्राह्मण राहत होता. ब्राह्मण जेवढा सज्जन होता त्याची पत्नी तेवढीच दृष्ट होती. ती ब्राह्मणाच्या गरिबीमुळे दररोज त्याला त्रास देत होती. संपूर्ण गावात ती तिच्या पतीची निंदा करत असे. पतीच्या विरुध्द आचरण करणे हाच तिने आपला धर्म मानला होता. एवढेच नाही तर पैशाच्या हव्यासापोटी ती आपल्या पतीला चोरी करण्यासाठी प्रोत्साहित करत होती. संपूर्ण गावात ती तिच्या पतीची निंदा करत असे.
पतीच्या विरुध्द आचरण करणे हाच तिने आपला धर्म मानला होता. एवढेच नाही तर पैशाच्या हव्यासापोटी ती आपल्या पतीला चोरी करण्यासाठी प्रोत्साहित करत होती.
Once, while performing Shraddha, a Brahmin’s wife picked up all the objects kept in the puja and threw them into a well. Saddened by his wife’s behavior, the Brahmin left for the forest. After going to the forest, he meets a serpent girl there. That day was the full moon in the month of Ashwin. The serpent girls asked the Brahmin to wake up at night and perform the Kojagar Vrat to please Lakshmi.
The Brahmin observed the Kojagar fast. Due to the effect of this vow, the Brahmin got immense wealth. By the grace of Bhagwati Lakshmi, his wife’s intellect was also purified and they began to live a happy married life.
एकदा श्राद्ध करताना ब्राह्मणाच्या पत्नीने पूजेमध्ये ठेवलेले सर्व पिंड उचलून एका विहिरीत फेकून दिले. पत्नीची अशी वर्तणूक पाहून दुःखी मनाने ब्राह्मण जंगलात निघून गेला. जंगलात गेल्यानंतर त्याला तेथे नागकन्या भेटतात. त्या दिवशी अश्विन मासातील पौर्णिमा होती. नागकन्यांनी ब्राह्मणाला रात्री जागरण करून लक्ष्मीला प्रसन्न करण्याचे कोजागर व्रत करण्यास सांगितले.
ब्राह्मणाने विधिव्रत कोजागर व्रत केले. या व्रताच्या प्रभावाने ब्राह्मणाला अपार धन-संपत्ती प्राप्त झाली. भगवती लक्ष्मीच्या कृपेने त्याच्या पत्नीचीही बुद्धी शुद्ध झाली आणि ते दाम्पत्य सुखाने संसार करू लागले.
